The Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Health Research Grant aims to support groundbreaking research that advances healthcare and medical sciences globally, while highlighting the pivotal role of the United Arab Emirates in fostering scientific innovation and progress in health.

Application opportunity

Research applications are invited from Principal Investigators working in one of the following fields:

   o  Biomedical Research.

   o  Medical Education.

   o  Health Policy.

Eligibility Criteria

Principal Investigator (PI) must:

o   Be a researcher primarily affiliated with an organization based within the UAE, which possesses the requisite infrastructure and resources to support the proposed research project.

o   Demonstrate sufficient expertise in their field, with a minimum of three years of research experience post-graduation or in a professional research capacity.

o   Have a proven ability to lead and manage research projects of similar scale and scope.

o   Collaborative applications between UAE-based organizations and international research entities are encouraged; however, the lead organization must be within the UAE.

Research Scope:

o   Biomedical Research: Exploring basic or clinical sciences to address biological and medical challenges.

o   Medical Education Research: Investigating methods, policies, and practices to advance medical education and training.

o   Health Policy Research: Analyzing and developing policies to improve healthcare systems and services.

Feasibility:

o   The PI and the affiliated organization must demonstrate their capability to execute the project successfully within the proposed timeline (2 years) and budget.

Submission Requirements

 General Instructions:

o   All documents should be in English and submitted through the dedicated portal.

o   Principal Investigators (PIs) should ensure they have all required documents ready before starting the submission process.

Research Proposal:

o   Structured Abstract: A concise summary of the project (300 words max).

o   Introduction: Background, context, relevance, and novelty of the research (500 words max).

o   Aims & Objectives: Clearly defined goals of the project (75 words max).

o   Methods and Plan of Investigation: Detailed methodology and research design (300 words max).

o   Project Timeline: A step-by-step outline of major milestones. Projects must be completed within 24 months; extensions may be granted in exceptional cases with proper justification and approval by the Foundation.

o   References: A list of references pertinent to the project.

o   Future Implications and Expected Benefits: Potential contributions of the research to healthcare and science (75 words max).

Personal Data:

o   Updated CVs showing relevant experience and qualifications/certifications.

o   Valid copy of passport and Emirates ID (if applicable).

Budget and Institutional Resources:

o   A detailed budget with justifications for each expense (consumables, equipment, research assistants' salaries, and other contingencies).

o   Budget cannot cover travel or publication costs.

o   A detailed budget timeline for fund requirements, indicating phases of the project and corresponding financial needs.

o   Description of available institutional resources relevant to project execution.

o   Disclosure of all existing funding sources (internal and external) with justification for additional funding.

Approvals:

o   Signed approval from the Head of the Institution stating no objection to the project and commitment to support its undertaking.

o   Signed approval from the Chairman of the relevant department.

o   Signed approval from the Ethics Committee or Institutional Review Board (if applicable).
