Dubai, UAE, 5 December 2024: Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences and The Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States signed a Memorandum of Understanding today (Thursday, December 5) at the Museum of the Future in Dubai to launch the "Distinguished Educator Award" at the level of member states of the Bureau, in the presence of several senior educational officials from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. This award represents a significant milestone in the journey to promote educational excellence and innovation across the region, supporting efforts to enhance the quality of education and encourage innovation in addressing current and future challenges. Dr. Mariam Al Ghawi, Director of Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Giftedness and Innovation, stated: "The Student Talent Discovery Program, implemented by Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Giftedness and Innovation, is a significant initiative aimed at providing schools and institutions with specialized tools for identifying talent and recognizing gifted students. This initiative incorporates best practices in the field, enabling appropriate decisions regarding teaching and training gifted students. It establishes clear indicators for identifying talented students and advancing their development based on the results of Hamdan Talent Rubric. The program aligns with the educational institution’s vision and objectives to harness and nurture talents, support students' abilities and skills, and provide systematic, evidence-based support that meets their needs. This methodology helps gifted students achieve their aspirations and make the most of their talents." Dr. Al Ghawi further highlighted the center's ambitious goal of identifying 5,000 gifted students by 2030. Since its inception in 2017, the program has assessed over 39,000 students, identifying 2,207 gifted individuals across 122 schools and institutions. The Talent Discovery Program caters to students from Grades 4 to 12 in public and private schools across the Emirates. Students can be nominated through two pathways: self-nomination, where students or their parents apply via the foundation's website, or group nomination, facilitated in collaboration with schools and institutions. This is achieved by adopting the standards and pillars outlined in the model, which was developed by an international team of specialists according to the best global practices. Commenting on this, Her Excellency Khawla Ahmed Bahlooq, Assistant Executive Director of the Excellence Sector, stated: "Hamdan EFQM Global Educational Award is part of the diverse initiatives and programs organized by Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences. The second phase involves the evaluation of schools, running from January to March 2025. This phase includes on-site visits to each school to assess performance based on the specified criteria. The assessment results for participating schools will be announced during 2025. Six schools from the UAE will participate in the Hamdan EFQM Global Educational Award, including Zayed Educational Complex / Al Barsha – Dubai, Dubai Modern Education School – Dubai, Al Manar Model School (Cycle Two) for Girls – Sharjah, Um Ghafa School – Al Ain, Zayed Educational Complex – Dibba Al Fujairah, and Zayed Educational Complex – Al Muntazah, Ajman. The winners were honored by Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Supreme President of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences, alongside H.E. The ceremony also witnessed the announcement of Hamdan-ALECSO Award for Digital Innovations in Education Across the Arab World, a new initiative aimed at promoting and encouraging innovation and honoring innovators. In his speech delivered on behalf of Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, H.E. Humaid Al Qatami, welcomed the attendees and emphasized that education in the UAE has achieved exceptional progress under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, along with the rulers of the Emirates. This award aims to stimulate and promote digital innovation in education, contributing to the creation of new solutions through modern digital technologies such as artificial intelligence. It also fosters knowledge exchange and collaboration among educational institutions and pioneers of digital transformation, highlights pioneering initiatives in education, and disseminates best practices in integrating advanced digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning. This year, the award attracted wide participation with 154 research papers from 11 countries. Saudi Arabia led the submissions with 103 research papers, followed by the UAE with 16, and Egypt with 17. The winning research papers included: Dr. Zainab Hassan Hamid Al-Salami from Ain Shams University, Egypt, for her research on "Developing a Model for Employing Generative AI in Project-Based Learning in Teacher Preparation Programs and Its Impact on Innovative Outputs and Passion." Dr. Rahma Bint Suleiman Bin Hadi Thakir and Mr. Hassan Bin Dhafer Bin Hassan Al-Zahrani from Saudi Arabia for their research on "The Impact of Employing AI-Enhanced Knowledge Quests on Academic Achievement and Improving Attitudes Toward Mathematics Among High School Students." Professor Abdulaziz Bin Fahd Bin Ibrahim Al-Asil from King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia, for his work on "An Educational Program Based on Metaverse Technology and Its Effectiveness in Enhancing Digital Future Skills and Positive Attitudes Among University Students." A research team from King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia, including Dr. Iman Bint Ali Al-Mohamadi, Ms. Malak Bint Ali Al-Fahmi Al-Zahrani, Ms. Bashayer Bint Abdullah Al-Qarni, Dr. Iradah Bint Omar Hamad, and Ms. Jawana Bint Abdullah Al-Jahani, for their research on "The Use of AI Applications in Graduate Research: Prevalence and Its Relationship to Perceived Impostor Syndrome."
