The Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance was established in 1998, and the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences in 1999, at the initiative of the late Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Both initiatives aimed to support quality in education and medicine, and nurture talent and innovation. The awards have expanded from local to international, in collaboration with prestigious organizations. In 2018, the Hamdan Bin Rashid Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance was established, and in 2023, the Hamdan Bin Rashid Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences was established, to promote excellence and creativity in these two sectors.

FabLab

The Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences launched the "Fab Lab UAE" project with the aim of fostering an innovative and productive Emirati generation. The project seeks to create a supportive environment for innovation and establish a comprehensive infrastructure by providing community centers known as Fab Labs. "Fab Lab" is short for "Fabrication Laboratory," which refers to a manufacturing lab. These labs grant access to the latest tools, devices, and software in the world of digital fabrication, making them available to all segments of society.

Hamdan Centre for Giftedness and Innovation Students Join Cambridge University Pre‑University Program

Students from Hamdan Centre for Giftedness and Innovation, part of Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences, are taking part this summer in the Pre-University Program at the University of Cambridge – Fitzwilliam College, running from 27 July to 9 August 2025. The initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to empowering gifted students by providing global learning experiences that enhance their academic excellence and open new pathways for scientific creativity.

The program offers participants exposure to a prestigious academic environment that combines scientific knowledge with life skills. Students engage in intensive lectures and hands-on workshops across diverse fields, including engineering, chemistry, medicine, and the humanities, alongside enrichment activities designed to foster personal development, communication, and teamwork skills in a multicultural setting.

Dr Mariam Al Ghawi, Director of Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Giftedness and Innovation, said: “Through this participation, we aim to provide our students with an exceptional academic experience at one of the world’s most renowned universities. This journey not only broadens their scientific horizons but also builds their confidence, nurtures a spirit of research and innovation, and prepares them to become ambassadors of knowledge and excellence in both the local and global community.”

Dr. Al Ghawi emphasized that the Center is committed to providing an integrated and supportive learning environment that meets the academic, educational, psychological, and social needs of gifted students. She noted that the Center’s specialized programs are designed to extend learning opportunities beyond the classroom, helping students develop their skills and interests while strengthening their academic presence locally and internationally.

The program brings together over 250 students from 15 countries, underscoring its role as an international academic platform for cultural exchange and scientific collaboration. It also aligns with the vision of Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation to cultivate an innovative generation capable of competing globally and contributing to a knowledge-driven future.

Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai, UAE, July 24, 2025: Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences, has concluded the 2025 Summer Camp for Talent and Innovation, held under the theme "Skills of Tomorrow". The camp welcomed the participation of over 130 gifted and innovative students from across the UAE, offering an advanced educational environment designed to cultivate future skills, foster innovative thinking, and strengthen leadership qualities among participants.

Dr Mariam Al Ghawi, Director of Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Giftedness and Innovation, commented: "We were committed to creating a stimulating learning environment for talented and innovative students during the summer break—one that helped develop their skills, sharpen their capabilities, and provided hands-on exposure to technological and innovation-based concepts in real-world contexts. The level of engagement and creativity we witnessed from students throughout the camp represents a message of hope for a brighter future, one driven by promising national talents equipped with knowledge and a spirit of leadership. We look forward to building on this momentum in future editions by

expanding strategic partnerships and enriching both theoretical and practical content in line with national aspirations. Dr. Al Ghawi also expressed appreciation for the valuable partnerships with key supporting entities, notably Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, DP World, Expo Dubai, and Thukher Club, emphasizing that these collaborations form a core pillar of the camp’s impact and sustainability.

Over the course of two weeks, the camp delivered 12 specialized training programs covering advanced knowledge and technology fields, including artificial intelligence, smart cities, the Internet of Things, digital design, and robotics. The agenda also featured hands-on workshops and high-impact field visits, most notably a scientific visit to the Terra Pavilion at Expo Dubai and an exploratory program at Dubai Maritime City—offering participants unique opportunities to engage in experiential learning. In addition, the camp extended its activities to include awareness programs for parents and senior citizens, further reinforcing the initiative’s community and educational dimensions.

The camp reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting and empowering gifted students, and to developing human capital in the UAE through comprehensive educational initiatives informed by international best practices. It

also aligns with the Foundation’s vision to establish a sustainable national framework for talent discovery and development, in line with the UAE Centennial 2071 goals of building a competitive knowledge-based economy and an innovation-driven society.

The camp concluded with a special recognition ceremony for participating students, during which certificates of achievement were distributed and student-led projects and innovations were showcased—demonstrating a high level of creative thinking and the ability to apply technical knowledge to develop real-world solutions for future challenges.

Dubai, UAE, July 9, 2025: Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences has launched the 2025 Summer Camp for Gifted Students under the theme "Skills of Tomorrow". The program officially opened yesterday at Al Shindagha Museum, welcoming around 130 gifted and innovative students from across the UAE. Held over two weeks, the camp provides a specialized learning environment aimed at nurturing future-ready skills, fostering creative thinking, and developing students’ leadership potential.

Following a tour of selected camp activities at the Foundation’s headquarters, Humaid Mohammed Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Hamdan Foundation, stated: “The summer camp for gifted students is a pivotal initiative in our efforts to provide educational and knowledge-based opportunities during the school break. It aligns with the Foundation’s broader commitment to supporting national strategies that empower a generation capable of innovation and global competitiveness. This year’s theme—Skills of Tomorrow—reflects our dedication to creating advanced learning environments that expand students’ knowledge, instill a spirit of entrepreneurship, and cultivate social responsibility. This initiative is part of the Foundation’s steadfast commitment to empowering gifted students and supporting their academic and personal excellence. The 2025 camp has been thoughtfully designed to integrate both theoretical instruction and practical application, while taking into account the developmental needs and individual differences of students aged 9 to 17.

The camp features a diverse range of advanced fields aligned with future development strategies, including artificial intelligence, programming, smart cities, the Internet of Things, digital design, and robotics. Moreover, the camp complements the Foundation’s long-term vision to establish a sustainable national framework for talent development. It is supported by strategic partnerships with leading entities such as DP World and Expo Dubai and aligns with

the UAE’s aspirations to foster a competitive knowledge economy and achieve the UAE Centennial 2071 goals.

The initiative is part of the Foundation’s strategic efforts to promote educational excellence, strengthen collaboration with public and private schools, and support students in developing their skills in digital innovation and creative design.

Digital Design Workshop: Creative Thinking in Action

The visit began with a hands-on digital design session, where students were introduced to the principles of design thinking and its role in creative problem-solving. Using advanced tools provided by the Foundation’s academic team, participants engaged in real-time experimentation that merged creativity with engineering concepts. Working in collaborative groups, students tackled real-world design tasks, enhancing both teamwork and innovation.

Laser Cutting and Fabrication: From Idea to Prototype

The second session focused on laser cutting and digital fabrication, allowing students to transform their ideas into tangible prototypes using precision equipment and industrial-grade technology. Hamdan Foundation Advances to Judging Stage of 2025 Medical Awards After Screening 330 Submissions

Dubai, UAE, June 4, 2025: Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences has announced the completion of the screening process for the 2025 Medical Awards, which aim to recognize outstanding achievements in healthcare at both the local and regional levels.

According to the awards committee, this year’s cycle received a total of 330 submissions from 18 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, Oman, Iraq, India, Kuwait, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Jordan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Morocco, the United States, Pakistan, Tunisia, Syria, and Ghana. Following an initial review, 261 submissions advanced to the administrative and technical screening stage, which involved verifying compliance with the award’s eligibility criteria and guidelines. Of those, 161 applications were confirmed as eligible and are now set to proceed to the judging phase, scheduled to begin on 2 June and continue until 15 October.

 

The judging process will be carried out by specialized committees comprising distinguished experts in the field. Each submission will be assessed according to the specific evaluation criteria established for each award category.

Dr. Salama Al Muhairi, Director of Medical Excellence at Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, emphasized the significance of this stage, noting that the evaluation and screening of submissions adhere to the highest standards to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the process. She added that these efforts reflect the merit and credibility of the Medical Excellence Awards, which seek to spotlight innovations and achievements that contribute to the advancement of medical practices. The awards also aim to encourage and support researchers in producing impactful and innovative studies in medicine and healthcare. The Foundation is committed to sharing the benefits of award-winning work, offering it as a source of inspiration and a model for excellence in scientific and medical fields. These achievements also contribute to the development of new solutions to address growing challenges in the healthcare sector.

The Medical Excellence Awards consist of two main categories. The first is dedicated to supporting health and research achievements across the Arab world and includes the Arab Award for Health Sector Research and the Arab Award for Genetic Sciences. The second category focuses on recognizing exceptional contributions within the United Arab Emirates and includes the Best Research in

Healthcare Award, the Innovation in Healthcare Award, and the Hamdan Award for Distinguished Personalities.

Over previous cycles, the awards have garnered wide recognition and attracted high-quality submissions from both inside and outside the UAE. This success reflects the Foundation’s commitment to supporting innovation and fostering a culture of excellence in the healthcare sector, while highlighting major accomplishments in scientific research and healthcare delivery.

Dubai, UAE, May 29, 2025: Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences held an introductory workshop on Hamdan–EFQM Global Educational Award at its headquarters in Dubai. The event drew wide participation from school representatives across the United Arab Emirates and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Commenting on the occasion, His Excellency Dr. Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Foundation, stated: “This award reflects the Foundation’s deep commitment to recognizing excellence in educational practices and honoring both institutional and individual efforts that contribute to the advancement of educational quality. We believe that schools serve as the foundational pillar for building a sustainable knowledge-based society. Through this award, we aim to accelerate qualitative transformation in education systems, in line with the UAE’s vision for institutional excellence and quality. The workshop was led by Dr. Rashid Al Reyami, a certified trainer and evaluator, who provided a comprehensive overview of the award’s objectives, structure, eligibility criteria, and application process. A dedicated discussion session followed, allowing participants to pose questions and explore the practical dimensions of the award.

Hamdan–EFQM Global Educational Award is one of the Foundation’s flagship strategic initiatives, developed in collaboration with the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM). It is the first award of its kind globally to assess educational institution performance based on a robust evaluation model aligned with international standards.

The award is anchored in Hamdan Educational Model, a globally recognized framework co-developed by international education experts and EFQM. The model emphasizes improved pedagogical and administrative performance, enhanced learning outcomes, and the dissemination of best practices among participating schools.

Targeting outstanding schools in the UAE and the broader GCC region, the award process includes a comprehensive review of applications submitted via EFQM’s digital platform AssessBase, followed by orientation sessions and site visits conducted by specialized assessment teams. The process culminates in the issuance of detailed feedback reports with holistic analysis and practical recommendations for continuous improvement.

The workshop concluded with a call to all eligible schools to apply and benefit from the resources and expertise provided by the Foundation. Participation in the award contributes to fostering a culture of innovation and excellence while reinforcing education as a key pillar of sustainable development.
